boulders, clay and mud. Fishing is decent, with the following 12 species
noted: smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rainbow trout, chain pickerel,
yellow perch, white perch, pumpkinseed, bluegill, brown bullhead, rock bass,
white sucker and golden shiner. Traditionally the lake has been
stocked with trout each spring. Lake Garfield is drawn down every year
from about mid-October to mid-February.
Monterey has a
permanent population of about 1,000 people, and several thousand part-time
residents who call Monterey their second home. Monterey is a spectacularly
